Tree and Shrub Care for Your Landscape

December 12, 2025

The trees and shrubs on your lot carry real value. They cool the house, soften the street view, and take years to replace. Southwest Florida heat and humidity help them grow fast, but the same climate invites fungus, sucking insects, and root trouble when soil stays wet or feeds run short.

Greener Fields USA offers tree and shrub programs built for Bradenton, Sarasota, Venice, and nearby Gulf Coast neighborhoods.

Diseases that show up in humid yards

Powdery mildew leaves a white dust on leaves. Palms face serious threats like lethal bronzing that need early eyes on the crown. Ganoderma and other wood decay fungi appear at the base of older trees. Spotting color shifts or wilting on one branch before it spreads through a hedge saves the plant and the row behind it.

Feeding below the mulch line

Sandy soil loses iron, manganese, and other minors quickly. Tree and shrub fertilizer applied at the root zone keeps color even and growth steady instead of the stop and start you see when only lawn feed reaches the bed edge.

Insects that weaken wood and leaves

Scale and mealybugs drain sap until leaves curl and drop. Borers open paths for rot. Insect and disease control targets the pest on the plant instead of spraying the whole yard and hoping for drift.

Root trouble from wet feet

Armillaria and Phytophthora root rots often follow poor drainage or daily overspray on shrubs tucked beside foundations. We look at soil moisture patterns and bed grade, not only the leaves at the top.

Regular visits through the year catch small problems while a single trim or treatment still fixes them.
